Okay so the Cat …er cats… are out of the bag!

When we visited the shelter last week we were looking for an older more experienced cat that could stand up to Oz. When we met Tildie we knew she was the one. But there was another feline that we couldn’t let escape our gaze. A small orange cat batted at his cage and wouldn’t rest until he had our attention. How could we resist this face? And how could we resist the clever “Supersize Combo” that the shelter was offering in which the purchase of a kitten allowed to you take home an adult cat for free?! And so we came home with not one, but two adorable friends for Oz.

The Arrival of Tildie

Well Drew decided it was finally time and we’ve made a new addition to our household. Meet our adorable new kitty Tildie. We took a trip to Dumb Friends League today where we met a couple of sweet cats and decided she would be a good fit. She’s sporting a bit of a “pirate eye” tonight that both Drew and I are smitten with and hope she’ll keep. She’s suffering from a bit of conjunctivitis which should heal up soon with her meds and we’ll see if her little wink sticks around!

There’s something really magical about letting go. Freeing yourself and feeling unabated by the world’s weight. My favorite favorite FAVORITE thing about weddings is the dancing. How often are people presented with an opportunity to dance? How often do they cash in on that opportunity? And how amazing does it feel to rock out with your friends and loved ones?

I stand idly by at most weddings watching the emotions pour out onto the wood tile dance floors. Joy, passion, elation, warmth, connection. Couples who have been married for decades doing the Foxtrot or the Lindy are holding each other tight looking younger than their years. Toddlers wiggling with their parents over powered by the movement engulfing them. Newlyweds bursting with their newly christened love, grasping at one another, hoping this moment never ends.

These moments, these minutes, these shared experiences are so powerful and I get to spend my life capturing them on camera. It’s truly a gift and most days I’m not sure how I got so lucky.

But it makes me realize not to take anything for granted. Despite the camera in my hand these moments are only for today. So we must live them, embrace them and shake our butts on the dance floor. We’ll look like absolute fools, but we won’t care. You know why we won’t care? Because we’re having the time of our lives and all those people who might care what we look like out there aren’t having any fun anyway….

Hey sorry for anyone who tries to keep up with the blog, things are a little busy around here so I’m backlogged. I’ve got a post I think about writing every time I’m at a wedding. Maybe I’ll get around to it soon. But until then, this might be my favorite picture ever - at least in recent months!

Halloween Approaches

I’m a huge huge HUGE (did I say huge?) fan of Halloween. It is my very favorite holiday. I love the costumes, the candy, the trick or treating, pumpkin carving, spider rings, crisp air, hot cider, mulled wine & of course having a good scream at one of Denver’s many Haunted Attractions! This is the first year I’ve lived in Colorado and won’t be participating in Haunted Denver for which I was a critic the past 2 years. I will however be sure to get out there and see some houses!

My first taste of the season was cruising around with Drew & his grandparents one night just over a week ago shooting some photos of the Banjo Billy Bus Tour for this piece on Metromix.com. If you’re looking for something fun to do this haunting season check out the Ghost Tours Drew’s cooking up with Banjo Billy in Denver!!

There is a great ghost story about this apartment building in Capitol Hill. When I was taking this photo a woman stood beside me looking concerned after I told her that I was taking photos for a Ghost Tour. When I finished up and thanked her she said “Did you get any?”. I looked at her confused and said “photos, um, yeah”. Then she replied “Spirits, I don’t want none of them gettin’ near me!”.

With the month of October being recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation holds its Annual Fund Drive for six weeks starting in mid-September and ending in October.

President Ronald Reagan enacted Proclamation 5890 in October of 1988 to recognize that each year, approximately a million pregnancies in the United States alone end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn child. Reagan stated, “A national observance offers us the opportunity to increase our understanding of the great tragedy involved in the deaths of unborn or newborn babies. It also enables us to consider how, as individuals and communities, we can meet the needs of bereaved parents and family members… ” To read the full Proclamation signed by Reagan, CLICK HERE.

Weekend Escapades With The Joneses

A couple of important people were here visiting this past week. We spent yesterday touring Boulder’s canyons and shopping malls as well as the Diagonal Highway’s beautiful countryside along the way to Longmont. We even managed to find a car show in our travels. Drew and I had the pleasure of photographing this past weekends kick off event for the Denver Tattoo Convention. I’m a big fan of body art and it was ALL on display Friday night at Beta Nightclub, courtesy of Tattoo Finder. The “Hottest Inked” Contestants served up some pretty impressive work and knew how to strut their stuff. Here are a couple of shots from the green room. Winners will be featured in a magazine spread and the Hottest Inked 2009 calendar.
