Breckenridge Family Portrait Session

You know whats awesome? Meeting other charismatic fun and easygoing photographers! You know what feels kind of weird and vaguely terrifying? Being photographed as a pro photographer by a pro photographer! So for Whitney I’m sure this shoot was a mix of awesome, weird and terrifying. I know, because recently I’ve been in FRONT of other people’s cameras and IT. WAS. BIZARRE. Enough banter from me. Meet the fabulous Whitney Loibner, a photog out of Little Rock, and her achingly adorable family. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting them in Breckenridge while they were traveling on vacation and despite the rain storm that attempted to ruin our shoot we rocked it out anyway. Whitney and her husband were total champs and by the end of the session we were all totally soaked. But from these photos, it was totally worth it! Kids Portraits in Niwot Colorado!

Last month I got to catch up with my friend Kelli and her little guy Matt while they were visiting from California. We were joined by their awesome friends and all ran around the little town of Niwot, shooting photos, playing on the caboose, blowing bubbles and throwing around a lacrosse ball. As you can see from these photos we had a blast!

Living Life to the Fullest-In Memory of Lacy Meadows

I never met Lacy Meadows, but he was close to a few of my friends and many of their friends, a group of avid back country skiers here in Colorado. Lacy passed away last month, skiing alone in Rocky Mountain National Park–apparently doing what he loved and living life to it’s fullest. I can’t get Lacy out of my head. The words of his friends are moving, speaking of his wide smile and zest for life:

“Of all the people in the world, there are some that touch you more than others – and he was one of those,” said David Bahr, a close friend and ski partner of Meadows’ for almost a decade. “He was someone you’d always want along and someone you trusted with your life.”(from Boulder’s Daily Camera Newspaper)

“Lacy was an avid and passionate skier, both inbounds and in the backcountry. He had unending energy that resonated with each and every person he met,” Brittany Walker said. “An honest soul and a great friend, Lacy lived and loved every day of his life to the fullest.” (from http://14erskiers.com/blog/2010/07/in-loving-memory-of-lacy-meadows/)

“Lacy was one hell of a skier. He loved to ski. I love to ski, but the way that Lacy loved to ski blew everyone I know out of the water. He loved a long hike, with a steep technical descent. He was known as the powder prophet, because he could always find the good snow on a bad snow day. Or as he would say, on a less better ski day because there are no bad ski days. He had this grin that I think I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It was infectious, when you saw it in full bloom you got stoked. His passion and enthusiasm came radiating out everytime that grin showed up. Lacy did what he loved and he changed people by simply living hard and in the moment. By squeezing out every last drop of joy from life he could muster, he has left a legacy and clearly will be missed.

Becoming an adult isn’t easy. Running a business, planning a wedding, living the 9-5 grind, raising kids, fighting the hard fights… And I’ve been struggling with those big questions lately, the “what’s it all for?” and “Why are we here?” kind of stuff. If Lacy’s death can teach anyone anything (and I think it already has) it’s finding out what means the most to you and choosing to live it. Live your life by whatever creed you choose, but live it big, without fear and without remorse. I know when I go out, I want to be remembered like the people who love Lacy remember him.

Okay, so about a month ago the ever so talented and fabulously cool dynamic duo, Michelle and Zach Wear of Revert Photography took gorgeous images of me and Drew. You can check them out here!

And on that fateful day of awesomeness I attempted to take photos of this fabulous couple and their three under 5 (ish) boys. OMG, it was an incredible challenge. But they were so sweet and so fun and so patient, that I managed to eek out a few photos between their taking of the rock star photos of me and Drew. Check it:

The Lovely Love Story of Sarah & Chris in Denver Colorado

Sarah’s laugh is infectious and her smile radiates. Chris lights up a room with his energy and humor. Together they’re like an enormous glaring sunbeam of awesome and joy. So it was natural that their friends and family coming together was like a reunion of long lost friends. It was a day of great meaning, one I’m told was many years in the making. But to look at Sarah and Chris, to hear their vows and witness the genuine love that overflows from them, you’d think their love was destined. Not years, but lifetimes in the making. I cried during their vows. I cried while editing their photos. I cried while watching the slideshow. Yes I’m a total sap, but really it’s impossible not to be overwhelmed by the amazingness these two people create as a pair. I couldn’t be more thankful to have been a part of their wedding day.

A Visit to the Great State of Washington!

I’ve had the pleasure of traveling with my buddy Gail of Encore Photography for one of her weddings this weekend. We’ve managed to squeeze in a bit of sightseeing, arriving on Thursday afternoon, stopping for a quick lunch in Seattle and making it to Anacortes (a lovely fishing town) by the same evening. Friday we traveled to Deception Pass, spent some time on the beach and took some great photos. And since a photo is worth a thousand words, I’ll stop writing and just SHOW you what we’ve been up to!

Castle Rock Wedding – Breanne & Nathan are married!

Bre and Nate are beyond gracious and kind. So there was no doubt they would have a fabulous wedding. Their beautiful day was not only witnessed by a group of amazing friends and family, but it was built by those same people! Everyone swooped in to transform the local Grange into a gorgeous venue with picture perfect details. The result? A romantic, fairy tale, picture perfect wedding. Oh and the carriage? Nate’s wedding day gift to his gorgeous bride. Congratulations Bre & Nate, you’re incredible and I wish you the very best in your life together!

We grabbed a few shots with Bre’s grandmother’s wedding gloves before heading to the ceremony. Vintage and soooo gorgeous.

Speaking of gorgeous. Bre looked like a princess. She was breathtaking.

One of my very lovely brides (and friends) from last year is the subject of a photo I’ve had printed in the new issue of Rocky Mountain Bride. So fun!
