hey, did you know i love dogs?

Actually I’m a softy for all animals. What’s funny is that Kitten Witten has revealed Drew to be a total softy too. But don’t tell him I told you!

In my internet meanderings I tend to visit some politically charged blogs about dogs. Yup, dog loving requires political action, you heard it here first! Right now, as I’ve mentioned before, there is a great deal of attention focused on animal cruelty because of the whole Michael Vick ordeal. Dog fighting aside there are many instances of neglect and poor care of pets that can be classified as cruel. In light of all this the American Kennel Club (AKC) named September Responsible Dog Ownership Month aimed at educating people about proper care of their animals. Events will be sponsored all over the country, Click here to find out whats going on in your state! Get educated and make sure you’re watching for signs of animal abuse in your neighborhood – I believe if we don’t report cruelty we’re just as guilty as the perpetrator.

Tips on Spotting and Defining Cruelty

What is cruelty you ask? Shedding some light on the subject from an article in the Fredricksburg Freelance Star Newspaper:

Dogfighting, of course, is one end of the spectrum of animal abuse. Plenty more examples of everyday misuse abound: dogs left on chains, dogs in hot cars, dogs allowed to roam, dogs that are allowed to breed and produce more dogs. The shelters are overrun with unwanted canines, and anyone who lives in the country can tell tales of litters of puppies dumped ignominiously at the end of a farmer’s lane. Add to that dogs purchased as family pets and then allowed to live their lives as backyard castoffs, victims of neglect. Man finds many ways to mistreat his Best Friend.
