Recently I’ve been reading about the safety of our food and the various (scary) intricacies of the FDA’s relationship with big food suppliers. In an effort to be more aware about where the food on our table is coming from we’ve joined Monroe Farm’s Community Supported Agriculture program. Every week during the summer we’ll receive a box of fresh produce from their farm as well as have the option to purchase fresh eggs. Another cool perk is visiting the farm, which brings me right back to my childhood in Pennsylvania! Yesterday we met up with friends and picked asparagus. It was fruitful for us and great for all the kids who tore around feeding chickens, picking asparagus, visiting the horses, dogs, kitties and other farm animals. I loved every minute and of course I grabbed a few photos to share, enjoy!
Our friend Kevin with his daughter Z.
Fresh organic asparagus. It was HUGE! And tasty 🙂
Our friends Danielle & Brian’s little ones are pros at the farm. This wasn’t their first picking session and they both LOVE asparagus.
Jesse with Z and our bucket OVERFLOWING with asparagus!
Z loving the farm kitty named Mini.
Z and her Daddy loving on Mini.
Today’s plan? Asparagus soup, asparagus pasta, asparagus frozen and asparagus however else it takes to preserve and enjoy 10 pounds of it!
