how to win the war

I finally memorized my word press management URL. So now I can happily compose internet updates that almost no one reads. It would appear that a lot of people visit my site if judged by the sheer number of comments waiting to be moderated. However further investigation proves that I am only popular to SPAMMERS. What does that say about me?

My trashy internet popularity aside things are par for the course, status quo and just plain peachy. No earth shattering updates, but Drew and I are gearing up for our move to Denver. Saturday is the big day. I won’t bore you with the details, but our new place is awesome and you’re all invited to our housewarming party. Yes even you Viagra Spammer. I’m not sure if Drew is onboard for attempting to host a party with an open invitation to everyone on the internet, but I assure you details will be forthcoming.

I’ve been having equal pangs of hopeful dreaming and defeated resignation this week. It’s only Wednesday, but I’ve probably logged a good 10 hours on flickr. I’m trying to understand how the higher rated photographers get so many views. Some are clearly on skill and I will admit to their work being superior to mine. Some of my favorite artists: Merkley???, Cymagen & CatmaDogma get an obscene amount of views daily. These three photographers deserve every ounce of exposure. They are talented, innovative artists, particularly the first two. The third is a new photographer who spends an enormous amount of time seeking the nature perfect shot and the results are beautiful macros that always stun the viewer.

Others flickr memebers however are purely garnering ratings from nudity and pretty girls (I suppose Cymagen and Merkley??? have their share too). Which is unforunate, but true. The best tactic I can find is to stick with what your good at and you’ll get a lot of attention if your entire stream focuses on one style. My problem with flickr is that it has become a catch all for my photographs. I don’t cull my work for the perfect image and it looks like I really need to start. I’ve been posting to groups heavily and I get a pretty decent return on my efforts. My activity on flickr led me to a posting by Lorenzodom wh0 had his work featured on Look Magazine . I contacted the editor and it looks like I’ll have a gallery up in the near future. Hopefully it will drive some viewers my way, but who knows?!

The best part about our new apt is that I plan on setting up a black and white darkroom. Which means lots of printing and a return to my photographic roots. Hopefully some confidence and inspiration will come with my exploration……

  1. Hey, looks like you’re on the right path!! Keep experimenting, never stop learning, and don’t waste your time! Find something that burns in you and shoot it…for me, I have nothing but utter admiration for my friends, and those are a lot of the people you see in my photos, not models. I know they will appreciate the effort I put forth, etc. etc. By the way, I have 2 flickr accounts, http://www.flickr.com/photos/cymagen and http://www.flickr.com/photos/cymagenpdx — one for the best of the best, and one that is the ‘catchall’ for all my pictures. Anyways, I hope your dreams are realized before you know it!
