This weeks Post Secret thought is something I wish I could expound upon at length. Unfortunately I have not the time nor the facts to create a thesis on why exactly Post Secret is an important cultural representation and how (to me) it conveys the ever growing gap between individuals in society, an increase in psychological disorders and echos the fairly new form of anonymity provided by the internet to express yourself in socially unacceptable ways.
That said… a new book is coming out soon. Here is the cover:
At first I felt a pang of frustration that yet another volume is being published. How will I afford another Post Secret book and all the books to come? How many books does there need to be? Why another book? What if Post Secret becomes played out and what if Frank loses respect for the quantity of books he’s producing and the speed with which they’re released?
But ultimately I’ve come to the decision that another book is a testament to all the people reaching out for help in some way. Isn’t it remarkable that Frank can continue to create these books because people trust him with their words? A lot of people find solace in other’s secrets and many people have found help because of Post Secret. Ultimately I have to consider that another book will raise more money for the Suicide Helpline, which is a noble and important cause on Frank’s part…. and should be for me too. Which is what I’ll be telling myself when I buy yet another volume of what is shaping up to be the Encyclopedia of the World’s Secrets.
