Colorado School of Mines 2013 M Walk

I’ve always admired my older brother. In part, because that’s what you do as a kid, but also because he’s a pretty awesome human being. And when he decided to move to Colorado with his wife to finish his degree in engineering I couldn’t be more thrilled. He applied to the prestigious (and little known to us east coasters) Colorado School of Mines, where his stellar GPA and general bad-assery got him accepted.  Back in the beginning of the school year I was privileged to witness the M Walk, a school tradition I knew nothing about prior to his attendance at CSM. My sister-in-law and I hiked over Mt. Zion to witness the event; a long hike, up a circuitous road, each student holding a heavy rock from their home town, culminating at the big white M overlooking the Golden, Colorado campus. And then the upper class-men white wash all the new students, and their rocks, in an absolutely wonderful display. I was a proud sister that day, just like all the other days.
