It’s 12:14 am, technically the morning of the day I embark upon a cross country drive to Colorado. It doesn’t feel real. The ache in my back from packing, the exhaustion in my body resulting in heavy eyelids, the overwhelmed feeling of having traveled around 900 miles in the past week and knowing I’m about to travel around 2000 more in the next… these things feel very real. Looking at the sum total of my material posessions that will make the trip, laid out in a neat 6′ x 4′ cube, there is still this lingering air of disbelief, but its truly happening. Tomorrow I get in the car with Doug and his Mom and Drew and make the first small 300 mile step to Pennsylvania on our way to Colorado. Wow. Thats really all I can muster. Stunned am I.
A week ago this Saturday I tortured myself for roughly 2 hours. This is the end result.
The butterfly has been on my body for 6 years, the peony in its glorious massiveness was created by a really wonderful artist based in New Hampshire who was gracious enough to include my first tattoo in his creation. He’s going to be at the Boston Tattoo Convention in September and actually designed the art for the posters you might see around.
Oh, and my friend Betz Monster once dated a guy who used to live in Boulder CO. When he lived there he ran for city council or something like that and his motto was something like “Let’s try not and screw it up”. I don’t think he won.
